At last, after twelve previous games, we've reached the bottom of 1995's list, and it's courtesy of the sequel to the smash hit Cannon Fodder, released late in 1994. We won't be seeing its predecessor for a long time, but why does the second game rank so poorly?
The first game was both critically and commercially successful, so it made sense to do a sequel. What they would include in that sequel seemed logical: if it ain't broke, don't fix it. You control teams of tiny men, running around shooting enemies, but while the first game was set exclusively in a WW1-type European situation, CF2 adds all manner of crazy locations, from the Middle East to mediaeval times, to Chicago and even an alien planet. When you remove the graphical differences, however, you end up with functionally the same game, with no substantial changes to weaponry and enemies.
As much as I loved Cannon Fodder, like anyone, it's easy to see that although this game warrants inclusion in the big list, it doesn't rate very highly because it's more like a mission pack for the first game instead of a proper sequel. Lemmings 2 this isn't. Still, it makes for an enjoyable time regardless.
