The 16-bit era of computers really was a time for simulation, none more popular than the flight sim. This is our first example, back when the Soviet MiG-29 was very much a mystery to the Western world, so the allure of a realistic simulation of it - assisted by someone who flew one, no less - was clearly intriguing back then.

Thankfully, the game does accommodate newcomers, as from the menu you can enter training, power the throttle and whoosh into the sky immediately, without needing to read a huge manual before take off. Clearly there's a lot more depth beyond that, but it's nice to be able to get stuck in straight away. As the title suggests, you can fly a MiG-29, that's it. You have a small selection of missions, which you spend strafing ground targets, blowing up tanks, and dogfighting with other planes. It doesn't have a great deal to offer beyond that, however, so replayability is limited.

It seems that, at the time of release, its main selling points were its speed and its authenticity to a real and unusual fighter plane. In subsequent years, however, reviews were less kind, when it became clear that the simplicity I mentioned earlier (and unlike the PC version, there is no 'Complex' mode) became the stick to beat it with. Put simply, it doesn't offer a great deal, unless you just want to fly around shooting other planes. This in itself was great in 1990, but far more engaging titles have appeared since.
