Graham Taylor's Soccer Challenge
1993: 100

Straight after our first from 1992, we get the bottom of the pile from 1993. I can't be sure if the title should read "Graham Taylor: Soccer Challenge" or "Graham Taylor's". Indeed, the cover art shows an erroneous "Graham Taylors". Anyway, what made this football management sim appear in the list at all?

GTSC gives you the top five levels of the English football pyramid, as it stood in 1992: from the then-new Premier League, down to the GM Vauxhall Conference (now the Vanarama National League). You start in the old Division 3, and work your way to the top, just like Graham Taylor himself did with Watford. You can control many aspects of your chosen club: hiring, firing, disciplining, and obviously managing the action on the pitch, which can be watched with graphics reminiscent of other football games of the day.

It's going to be hard to recommend playing a football management game from 1992, when there have been so many advancements in the genre over the years, and it includes players from a bygone era. As much as I love football games, I've always been terrible at footy management sims, so I don't think I'd have the patience to sit through this. Looking as a casual observer of the genre, however, I can see why it was viewed as a good entry for the Amiga at the time.
