Sometimes, Amiga developers try to emulate a console experience, and sometimes they succeed. Venus is one of those times.

You are a fly who can shoot lasers, and you must jump through many platform levels to destroy all the cybernetic insects in your path. Venus can shoot a variety of weapons, using a power-up system similar to shooters like Gradius. There are occasional bonus levels that take the form of a flying shooter, but mostly you will be jumping on platforms. There is a password for each level, so serious players can try to beat the game, but it has a fair difficulty curve that means less skilled players can still enjoy it.

I'm surprised this was only chosen once, and so low down, because it really captures the feel of a console platformer. There are little things that can annoy, like how your character needs a second to turn around, but they're minor quibbles in a well-designed package. When playing with a modern joypad, it controls pretty well, and fans of the genre should certainly consider playing.
