Leisure Suit Larry III: Passionate Patti in Pursuit of the Pulsating Pectorals

A series with numerous games, but only the third entry makes it into the Amiga Power hall of fame. It made its home on the PC, but how does the Amiga version fare?

After the events of the second game, where Dr. Nonookee was defeated by the titular hero, the island of Nontoonyt over which he ruled has been turned into a resort, and Larry is living there with his native wife. The third game begins with an abrupt divorce, leading Larry to resume his playboy lifestyle. It plays very similarly to other Sierra adventure games, so keyboard input is necessary, and the puzzles can be quite tricky without some hints. The game also doesn't take advantage of the Amiga's hardware as the lead platform is the PC's EGA video standard, and it runs pretty slowly on a stock Amiga 500 .

Despite Jonathan Nash hating the game in the August 1994 issue upon reviewing the re-release (giving it a ridiculous 9%), I suppose if you're going to include any of the Larry games, the third would be the one to choose, especially since the fourth would not arrive until after the 1991 list. It's a good game, providing you have a walkthrough to help you get through problem areas, because it's just enjoyably written, a game that aims squarely at its adult audience in its humour rather than titillation. Pity that other Sierra games such as Space Quest III didn't make the list.
