Graphical adventures from Lucasfilm and Sierra started to become popular in the late 80s, and Delphine were another company who tried their hand at it, with some success.
This is the first of a trio of point-and-click adventure games that Delphine made, and the other two will appear later in this list. Needless to say, this means that Future Wars is the lesser of the three. You play as a simple window cleaner, who unexpectedly finds himself caught up in an alien war, and must travel through time to stop things getting out of control. This was an interesting time for the development of this genre: starting with exclusively text-based adventures in the 70s, games evolved through Sierra adding graphical elements while retaining a text interface. Future Wars represents a middle period, where the game is completely mouse-driven, yet the interface can be a little cumbersome compared to later attempts. Still, the graphics are not based on the PC's EGA palette, so they look good, and it's written quite well.

This game does have its flaws, notably the need to move your character next to an object before interacting with it (if I have to read "come a little closer!" one more time...), and the tiny hit boxes for items is very frustrating: sometimes you have to find the exact pixel where an object covering eight pixels is placed. If you can look past that, however, you might find an interesting story, and being one of the many games supported by ScummVM, it's very easy to get started nowadays.
