Fire & Ice: The Daring Adventures of Cool Coyote
1993: 73

What the world needed in 1993 was another mascot platformer, and Amiga Power honoured Cool Coyote with an appearance in their list as a result.
Mario throws fireballs, Zool shoots sweets (maybe?) but Cool Coyote throws snowballs in this icy platformer. A couple of frozen lumps will freeze your adversaries, allowing you to smash them into pieces. The main task in the levels is to collect pieces of a key that you use to open the level's exit door. The protagonist moves more slowly than Zool, but this means controlling him is actually quite comfortable, and the game, while a little unremarkable, is certainly competent.

After having to sift through manuals just to play for a few minutes to be able to write something for a basic review, I'm always glad to have a game I can just pick up and play instantly. Fire & Ice is nothing groundbreaking, but that doesn't mean fans of the genre should steer clear. It handles really well, and even if it sounds like an 8-bit game, it certainly doesn't look it. Give it a try, you probably won't mind.
