Dark Seed
1993: 61
Inspired by the works of H.R. Giger, Dark Seed is a creepy take on the point-and-click genre.Starting the game with a splitting headache, your protagonist heads to the bathroom to take a tablet, but that's the end of normality. Strange things start happening around him, and it's up to you to figure out what's going on. The game uses a simple interface to get around the world, and the graphics are very detailed for the Amiga, although it can be quite slow on a stock A500.
It certainly does have a different atmosphere to other 90s adventures, and I appreciate the very basic interface that doesn't find you fiddling with unnecessary options. Having said that, the game just doesn't seem as engaging to me as others in the genre - one man's creepiness is another man's boredom, I suppose. I don't know if it still holds up well today, but it didn't grab me.
