Before Sensible Soccer and Cannon Fodder, Sensible Software made a big splash with their quirky take on the then-hot god game genre.

Choose how many people to send to an island, task them with inventing weaponry, and use said weaponry to conquer the island, before moving on to the next one. It's a basic concept, and the presentation makes it very easy for a newcomer to get to grips with it. Once you have mastered the basics, there are plenty of islands to take over, so the game has plenty of longevity.

Oh goody, a god game, just what I wanted... but seriously, this does make an unusual effort to help you out in its interface, with lovely little texts explaining what buttons do. The graphics are charming and the concept is relatively simple, but as usual, I'm not the person to ask about it.
