PGA European Tour
1995: 17

We've reached the highest-ranked golf game in the list - surprisingly, the final list in 1996 was the only one that didn't feature a single golf game. This improvement over the earlier PGA Tour Golf, then, must have been significant enough to warrant a top 20 placement in 1995.
PGA European Tour updates the original PGA game with most of the improvements one could ask for: the graphics are improved, there are more playing options, there are more courses to play on. There are both OCS/ECS and AGA versions, with the latter boasting even better graphics. Certain elements, like the control system itself, have not been changed, and so this will be readily accessible to anyone familiar with the original PGA Tour Golf - and indeed, any beginner can pick it up easily.

It's fair to say that this is a lot like the earlier PGA Tour Golf, though set in Europe, of course. I liked that, so I like this. It's arguably the same thing but better, so I suppose you'd be better off with this than the previous game, but after playing the other golf games on this list, the PGA games seem a bit too simple in their control system: it usually gives you the right club for the job, and the 100% power mark is usually set to whatever distance you actually need, so it takes a lot of the strategy out of your hands. Maybe that's good for beginners, but seasoned golf game fans might prefer another of the games on the platform.
