Want to order people around, but find Populous or Mega lo Mania too busy? Then The Settlers is the game for you.
There are different options to start your game, but the general idea is to organise a group to settle in a place, stopping anyone else who happens to be trying to do the same. You build a castle, construct houses and other buildings, and establish roads to all of them. Most of the work is done for you by the small settlers who run around doing your bidding, so you don't necessarily have to deal with the minutiae, but the option is there if you like. The nice presentation and replayability made this a popular entry in the god game genre.

Yet another of those games where I spend a while on the manual, realise it's going to take a good few hours to really get something out of it, and decide it'd be better to leave this for another time. Sure, we're near the end of my list, so there aren't so many more games to go through, but nevertheless, better get on with things. It does look nice, though, and the interface is surprisingly intuitive.
