A two-time winner, this cutesy platformer is the ninth of the six-time appearance games for us to see in my list - but there's still one more to come.
You play as either Bub or Bob, the characters from Bubble Bobble, now in human form. Instead of bubbles, this time they can fire out rainbows, which can be used either as an offensive weapon against the various creatures in your path, or as a bridge to other platforms. Instead of eliminating all of those enemies in a single screen, you have to make your way vertically to the top of each level, collecting items as you progress. It's a straightforward arcade platformer, but this port is executed perfectly, such that there is little to distinguish it from the original.

This is a deceptive little game: the first couple of attempts, I saw it as a simple throwaway platformer, nothing more. Then as I improved, I could feel how to use the rainbows more effectively, and what the power-ups do, and the types of enemies. Suddenly I was progressing through the game, and I've read that there are lots of hidden rooms to find, and now I realise why it was so beloved by the Amiga Power boys. Give it a try, you might be surprised.
