With a stylised rendition of Fleetwood Mac's The Chain, F1GP proved to be the 16-bit standard for 3D car racing against which all others would be measured.
There are other Formula 1-inspired games on the Amiga, but this game tries to be as authentic to the real event as possible. There are sixteen tracks to race on, and you can play with a wide variation of the complexity of the game, depending on how interested you are in getting into the details. Thus, as you improve at the game, you can take control of aspects such as the tyres and wings on your car. While Indianapolis 500 also provided a fast 3D racing experience, doing so in Formula 1 proved much more popular, and the game remained popular with enthusiasts for many years.

One of those games where I can jump in and have a race around, while being aware that there's a lot more if I care to dig deeper. If you've been reading this blog for a while, you'll know that I don't tend to dig deep, but I can appreciate the quality of this game, and why it got such rave reviews at the time. I guess it took a while before it was improved upon by others in the genre, and it's a shame that it runs at a fixed framerate, but there you go.
