Honourable Mention 8: Monkey Business & Delta Patrol

Honourable Mention 8
Monkey Business & Delta Patrol

Yes, I saved the best 'till last - or, more accurately, my one joke entry. You see, I couldn't really think of too many more genuine Honourable Mentions to include that hadn't already been featured in the main list, so I decided to try and include the first ever game released for the Amiga. The general consensus online is that Monkey Business is probably the best candidate for that, though Delta Patrol by the same developer may well have come first too, so I included them both, given that they can be found on the same disk.
Monkey Business is basically Nintendo's arcade classic Donkey Kong, with a change of sprites to make it a little less obvious. It's a perfectly functional rendition of it, however. Delta Patrol is more like Defender, as you use the mouse to fly a helicopter around an area shooting enemies while protecting those on the ground. Obviously, neither game is truly worth your time today, but Monkey Business in particular was long believed to be the first ever Amiga game, and many thought it didn't even exist until it was unearthed somehow in 2018, so now we can enjoy it in all its glory.

If you want to actually play this yourself, it's not in the TOSEC set that I've seen - it was only discovered and dumped recently, as I mentioned - but you can find it online if you have a look. Be aware that you'll need to use 512KB of RAM with no extra RAM installed (this goes for emulation too), as the existence of other RAM will result in nothing but a black screen. The question is, should you play it? Meh, why not.

Recommended TOSEC disk(s):
none (you'll have to find the game online)
